Medicare Basics Explained Simply

Turning 65 or Retiring Soon

Medicare Key Components

Parts A & B (Original Medicare)

Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, and some home health services.

Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, and preventive services.

Part D (optional) adds prescription drug coverage through separate plans.

Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) helps pay out-of-pocket costs not covered by Parts A & B.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Offered by private insurers, Medicare Advantage plans bundle Part A and Part B, often with added benefits like Part D drug coverage, vision, dental, and wellness services.

Most plans use provider networks, so you may need to use in-network doctors and facilities.
